The scent of tropical sunscreen mingled with the aroma of spicy Mexican food as Eric (my husband, who was then nineteen) sat in the oversized restaurant booth, crunching on tortilla chips and engaging in small talk with his fellow camp counselors. Some are big, some are small. We begin making decisions from the moment we open our eyes in the morning: what am I going to wear? What am I going to eat for breakfast? Should I do my grocery shopping this morning or this afternoon? Other decisions are much more weighty than that, and have a great significance, sometimes even changing the direction of our lives.
